C is for Care

What does it really mean to care about someone?  For some people I think its just a word that is over used for some self-interested perceived gain.  If we say we care about someone doesn't that make us look better?

I think that care is a concept that is very much more than a word.  Its a son that was neglected by his father sitting beside his fathers hospital bed.  Its a former lover holding him while he weeps.

Its being concerned about a persons needs - not just the basic physical needs but the emotional and spiritual needs as well.

Its about letting go when you want to hold on.

Its about holding on when you want to let go.

To care I believe is to love.  And like love we have a responsibility to make sure that when we say we care we really do.

  1. I totally agree. The word care is used to loosely.

  2. Interesting post.

You make a good point - it's often easy to "say" we care, but not always so easy to "show" that we do.

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. To care at times is to console
    To help someone through pain
To care at times is to protect
    Ward off hurt and disdain
To care is to nurture a life
To help it heal or grow
To care is to hope others like
The seeds you have to sow
To care is to try to preserve
Though down the world may tear
    So carefully I will propose
We all could do to care

  6. I've never really thought about the word as a real concept, and you've made me do it. I think the word may be tossed around too often without much thought.

  7. Well said. The very hardest caring is when the other person rejects my sincere emotions, walks out and slams the door. I've learned that it takes people time to see that love freely offered is the best kind of love. I'll hold my heart open until they come back... Thanks for the thought-provoking A to Z Challenge post.
